A Pyre Burning in Front of the Opera House. Condolences from the Managers of Poznań’s Grand Theatre
We shall remember Krzysztof Penderecki as an extraordinary artist who has taken Polish music to its greatest heights; a Human Being of immense talent, and lover of nature, whose splendid park and tree collection can be seen next to the European Centre for Music in Lusławice, built on the Composer’s initiative. In one of the interviews the Artist talked about his fondness for getting lost in the maze of trees. A year before Penderecki’s birth, [Polish poet] Leopold Staff claimed that ‘tall trees are beauty nonpareil’. This is true about both trees and music. Maestro, farewell!
